Overview
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a dermal filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a smooth carboxymethylcellulose gel. CaHA is a mineral that also occurs naturally in bone and teeth, which is why the product has a long safety record. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse works in two phases: the gel provides immediate volume and lift, and as it is gradually absorbed the microspheres act as a scaffold that prompts fibroblasts to lay down new collagen. The result is support that outlasts the gel itself.
Because the product is firm and has a high lifting capacity, it suits deep structural work rather than delicate surface areas. It is a frequent choice for jawline definition, chin projection, cheek support, pre-jowl hollows and the backs of the hands. Diluted or "hyperdilute" Radiesse is also used in thin sheets under the skin of the neck, lower face and décolletage to improve firmness rather than add shape. It is not used in the lips or the tear trough, where a softer hyaluronic acid product is safer.
One important difference from HA fillers: Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Placement therefore has to be precise and conservative from the start, which is why we recommend it only after an in-person assessment by a specialist.

What to expect
1. Consultation & diagnosis
We photograph your face from several angles, assess bone structure, skin thickness and fat distribution, and review your medical history, including previous fillers, autoimmune conditions and blood-thinning medication. We then agree on the areas, the number of syringes and whether Radiesse, an HA filler or a collagen stimulator is the right fit.
2. Treatment
After cleansing and topical numbing, the product (which includes lidocaine) is placed with a cannula or needle. Each area is moulded and checked in a mirror before moving on. Most sessions take 20–40 minutes, and you can return to normal activity the same day.
3. Aftercare & follow-up
You leave with written aftercare in your Oaro care notebook. We review you at two to four weeks to assess symmetry, and we schedule the next check around 12 months to decide whether a maintenance syringe is needed.

Aftercare
- Avoid pressing, massaging or sleeping face-down on treated areas for 48 hours unless we instruct otherwise.
- Skip saunas, hot yoga, alcohol and intense exercise for 24–48 hours to limit swelling.
- Use a cool pack for a few minutes at a time if the area feels tender; do not apply ice directly.
- Delay dental work for two weeks before and after the session.
- Contact us the same day if you notice blanching, unusual pain, mottled skin or changes in vision.

How long does Radiesse last?
Most patients see results for 12–18 months, and the collagen it stimulates can leave a lasting improvement even after the gel is absorbed.
Is Radiesse better than hyaluronic acid filler?
It is different rather than better: Radiesse is firmer and longer-lasting but cannot be dissolved, so HA fillers remain the safer choice for lips, tear troughs and first-time patients.
Can Radiesse be dissolved?
No. There is no enzyme that removes CaHA, which is why conservative, well-planned placement by an experienced dermatologist matters.
Does Radiesse hurt?
