What is PRP therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is prepared by drawing a small amount of your blood, spinning it in a centrifuge and separating the plasma layer that is rich in platelets. Platelets carry growth factors, including PDGF, TGF-beta and VEGF, that signal tissue to repair and build collagen. Because the material comes from your own body, there is no risk of allergy to a foreign product, which is one reason PRP remains popular in Seoul for patients who prefer an autologous option.
In dermatology PRP is used in two main ways. For the face it is injected into the dermis or applied immediately after RF microneedling to improve texture, dullness, fine lines and acne scars. For the scalp it is injected into thinning areas to support hair density, often alongside medical treatment for female hair loss or male pattern hair loss.

What to expect
1. Consultation & diagnosis
Your dermatologist reviews your skin or scalp, medical history and any blood-thinning medication, then sets the number of sessions and whether PRP will be injected, applied after needling, or both.
2. Blood draw, processing and treatment
About 10–20 ml of blood is drawn from the arm and centrifuged for around 10 minutes while numbing cream takes effect. The PRP is then injected in small amounts or massaged into the skin after microneedling. The treatment stage takes 20–30 minutes.
3. Aftercare & follow-up
You receive written aftercare and your care notebook is updated. Sessions are reviewed at four-week intervals; scalp patients are photographed with standard lighting to track density.

Aftercare
Aftercare
- Do not wash the treated area for 6–8 hours; avoid make-up until the next morning.
- Skip alcohol, saunas and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen for a few days, as they may blunt the platelet response; paracetamol is fine.
- Use sunscreen daily and keep the skin moisturised.
- For scalp PRP, avoid hair dye and harsh shampoos for three days.
