What is Thermage?
Thermage is one of the longest-established non-surgical skin tightening treatments. A monopolar radiofrequency current passes through a treatment tip into the skin, where resistance in the tissue generates heat across the full thickness of the dermis and into the fibrous septae of the subcutaneous fat. That heat does two things: it causes existing collagen fibres to contract slightly, and it sets off a remodelling process that produces new collagen for three to six months afterwards.
Because the energy is spread volumetrically rather than focused at one depth, Thermage is well suited to skin that has lost firmness across a broad area, such as the cheeks, the eyelids, the abdomen or the thighs. It is a single-session treatment and does not break the surface of the skin, which is why it remains popular with patients who cannot take time away from work.

What to expect
1. Consultation & diagnosis
Your dermatologist assesses laxity, skin thickness and any contraindications such as implanted electronic devices or pregnancy, then recommends a tip size and shot count.
2. Treatment
A return pad is placed on your back and a grid is transferred onto the skin. Each pulse delivers a burst of cooling, heat and cooling again; you give feedback on a scale so the setting stays warm but comfortable. The face typically takes 30–60 minutes.
3. Aftercare & follow-up
You leave with slightly pink skin and no restrictions. A review is scheduled at three to six months to photograph the result and plan maintenance.

- Pinkness and mild warmth usually settle within a few hours; no dressings are needed.
- Avoid hot baths, saunas and alcohol on the day of treatment.
- Moisturise and use sunscreen daily; the skin is not open, so make-up can be applied the same day.
- Rarely, small areas of swelling or surface unevenness occur and resolve over one to two weeks.
- Record your result photographs at three and six months with your dermatologist.
