What is radiofrequency tightening?
Radiofrequency (RF) tightening passes an alternating electrical current through the skin. Tissue resists the current and converts it to heat, and when the dermis reaches roughly 40–45 °C, collagen fibres contract and fibroblasts are stimulated to produce new collagen and elastin. Because RF is not absorbed by pigment, it is safe across all skin tones, and because the energy can be delivered in several ways, the same principle can be applied to very different problems.
Monopolar RF, as in Thermage, heats the dermis volumetrically from the surface. Microneedle RF, as in Potenza or Agnes, delivers energy through insulated needles directly into the dermis at a chosen depth, bypassing the epidermis. Microwave-band energy, as in Onda, is tuned to heat subcutaneous fat and the fibrous septae for contouring and tightening together.

- Mild redness or warmth settles within hours after monopolar or microwave RF, and within one to two days after microneedle RF.
- Avoid saunas, hot baths and intense exercise for 24–48 hours.
- Use sunscreen and a gentle moisturiser daily.
- After microneedle RF, pause retinoids and acids for three days and avoid make-up for 24 hours.
