What is lip filler?
Lip filler is hyaluronic acid gel placed into specific parts of the lip to change its shape, hydration or proportion. The lip has several landmarks that each respond differently: the vermilion border (the edge), the Cupid's bow, the philtrum columns above the upper lip, the body of the lip, and the wet-dry line inside. Adding gel to the border sharpens definition; adding to the body gives fullness; small amounts at the philtrum columns can lift a flat upper lip; and gel near the wet-dry line creates eversion, which shows more pink without making the lip look larger.
Because the lip moves constantly, the product has to be soft and flexible. We use gels designed for the lip, such as Juvederm Volbella or Restylane Kysse, and keep volumes small, typically 0.5–1 cc in a first session. Korean aesthetic preference tends toward natural proportion rather than obvious enlargement, and most of our Seoul patients ask for hydration and a tidier shape rather than size.

What to expect
1. Consultation & diagnosis
We look at your lips at rest, smiling and speaking, photograph them, and discuss what you want to change. We check for cold sore history (we may prescribe an antiviral), recent dental work and any previous lip filler.
2. Treatment
Numbing cream is applied for 15–20 minutes. The gel, which contains lidocaine, is placed with a fine needle in small threads and droplets. We check symmetry after each pass and finish in about 15 minutes.
3. Aftercare & follow-up
Written aftercare goes into your care notebook. Swelling peaks on day two and settles by day three to five. At four weeks we review shape and symmetry and add up to 0.5 cc if needed.

- Expect swelling for 48–72 hours; use cool compresses in short intervals and sleep slightly elevated.
- Avoid lipstick, straws, kissing and spicy food for 24 hours.
- Skip alcohol, saunas and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours to reduce bruising.
- Do not press or massage lumps in the first week; most are swelling and settle on their own.
- Call the clinic immediately for severe pain, white or dusky patches or spreading blisters.
