Overview
What is temple Botox?
The temporalis is a fan-shaped chewing muscle under the skin of the temple, above and in front of the ear. It helps close the jaw, so people who clench, grind or chew gum often can develop a thicker temporalis over time. The upper sides of the head may then look wider than the cheeks and jaw, and a ridge can pop out at the temple with every bite.
Temple Botox places small amounts of toxin into the temporalis so it contracts less strongly. Over the following weeks the muscle works less and gradually loses some bulk, which can narrow the upper side of the head and reduce that bulge when chewing. It does not change bone, fat or skin, so the first job is working out how much of your temple width is actually muscle.
How temple Botox works at Oaro
At Oaro Dermatology Clinic, on the 8th floor of Cheongdam Tower where Apgujeong meets Cheongdam in Gangnam, Dr. Chang-hyun Kim, our board-certified Representative Director, feels the temporalis while you relax and clench, and asks about grinding, headaches and dental history. Temple treatment is often planned with masseter Botox, because relaxing the masseter alone can leave the temporalis doing more of the work. If clenching is your main concern, see teeth grinding Botox. The clinic is about 8 minutes on foot from Apgujeong Rodeo Station, with English-friendly coordination and itemised quotes in English.

Treatment goals
Common goals for temple Botox
A narrower upper side of the head
When an enlarged temporalis is the main cause of width above the cheekbones, gradual muscle thinning can bring the upper face into better proportion with the cheeks and jaw. The change is modest and builds over several weeks.
Less bulging when you chew
Some people see a firm ridge moving at the temple with every bite. Relaxing the muscle usually makes that movement less obvious.
Balancing masseter treatment
If you already have masseter Botox, the dermatologist may suggest treating the temporalis too, so both main chewing muscles are relaxed in balance rather than one taking over from the other.
Easing temple tightness from clenching
People who clench at night often wake with tired, tight temples, and reducing the muscle's force may ease that for some. Persistent or severe headaches need medical assessment first rather than toxin.
Your visit
What to expect
1. Consultation & diagnosis
Your dermatologist examines both temples at rest and during clenching, checks for existing hollowness, and reviews your medical history, medicines and dental treatment. You will hear whether temple Botox is likely to help, whether the masseter should be included, and what change is realistic.
2. Treatment
After cleansing, a few small injections are placed into the muscle at each temple, taking about 10–15 minutes. Most people feel brief pressure or stinging; ice or numbing cream is available. The dose is set by the dermatologist after examining muscle size and strength.
3. Aftercare & follow-up
You can return to work or sightseeing straight away. Clenching force usually eases within one to two weeks, and visible slimming develops over four to eight weeks. A review at two to four weeks, in person or by message with photos, checks symmetry and plans any future sessions.
Cost guide
Temple Botox cost in Seoul
Price depends on the toxin brand, the size and strength of the muscle, and whether the masseter is treated at the same visit. Units are not interchangeable between brands, so it is clearer to compare the price for the area than unit counts. Many Seoul clinics use Korean-made toxins such as Nabota, which are generally less expensive, as well as imported brands that cost more. These are typical ranges in Seoul clinics.
| Option | Typical range (KRW) |
|---|---|
| Both temples, Korean-made toxin | ₩100,000–₩300,000 |
| Both temples, imported toxin | ₩250,000–₩600,000 |
| Temples + masseter, Korean-made toxin | ₩150,000–₩450,000 |
| Temples + masseter, imported toxin | ₩400,000–₩900,000 |
Exact pricing is confirmed at consultation after examination.
Aftercare
Aftercare
- Avoid rubbing, massaging or pressing on your temples for the rest of the day.
- Skip the gym, saunas, hot baths and alcohol until the next day to limit bruising and swelling.
- Choose softer foods and avoid chewing gum for a couple of weeks if your jaw feels tired; this is usually temporary.
- Use a cold compress briefly if a small bruise or bump appears; a mild headache usually settles within a day or two.
- Message the clinic if your temples look uneven at two weeks or anything feels unexpected.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How can the doctor tell if my temple width is muscle?
The dermatologist feels the temple while you relax and then bite down. A temporalis that hardens and bulges noticeably is likely to respond. Width from bone, fat or hair volume will not change with toxin, and you will be told honestly if that is the main factor. This is checked at your first visit to our Apgujeong clinic.
Could temple Botox make my temples look hollow?
If your temples are already flat or slightly sunken, slimming the muscle could make that more noticeable, so toxin may not be recommended. The doctor may discuss temple fillers instead. When the muscle is genuinely enlarged, dosing is planned conservatively, and the effect fades gradually over months.
Can I have temple and masseter Botox on the same day?
Yes. Many patients in Gangnam treat both chewing muscles in one visit, particularly for clenching. Chewing may feel more tired for a few weeks, and bruising, mild swelling or headache are possible, so the plan is balanced to your muscle strength and daily needs.
Who should avoid or postpone temple Botox?
Postpone treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if there is an infection at the temple. It is not suitable for people with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis or a known allergy to toxin ingredients. Tell the doctor about all medicines, especially aminoglycoside antibiotics and blood thinners.
I am visiting Seoul for a short trip. When should I book?
Book early in your stay. The injections take minutes with little downtime, but slimming develops over 4–8 weeks, so most of the change happens after you fly home. Flying the next day is generally fine, and our Cheongdam team can review progress by message with photos.
