Neck Botox in Apgujeong & Cheongdam, Gangnam, Seoul

Relaxes the vertical neck bands of the platysma muscle and can subtly define the jawline in suitable patients.

Neck Botox
Quick answer
Neck Botox uses botulinum toxin (often called Botox) to relax the platysma, the thin sheet of muscle that forms visible vertical bands on the neck and pulls down on the jawline. At Oaro Dermatology Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul, a board-certified dermatologist examines your neck and jawline first and sets a measured dose suited to the strength of the bands. Results usually begin within a week, peak at about 2 weeks and last around 3–4 months.

Every Botox plan at Oaro Dermatology Clinic begins with a 1:1 examination by a board-certified dermatologist, so the toxin, dose and injection points are set for your muscles rather than a template. Meet our doctors or see all injectables.

Overview

What is neck Botox?

The platysma is a thin, broad muscle that runs from the collarbones over the front of the neck to the jawline. With age its edges can become prominent and form vertical cords, called platysmal bands, which stand out most when you speak, grimace or strain. The same muscle also pulls down on the lower face, which can blur the line of the jaw.

Small amounts of toxin placed along the bands relax them, so the neck looks smoother in movement. A related technique, often called the Nefertiti lift, places toxin along the jawline and upper neck to reduce that downward pull, which can give a modest improvement in jawline definition. Neck Botox does not tighten loose skin or remove fat, and it has a limited effect on horizontal neck lines, so it suits people whose main concern is muscle activity rather than laxity.

How neck Botox works at Oaro

At Oaro Dermatology Clinic, where Apgujeong meets Cheongdam in Gangnam, a board-certified dermatologist such as Dr. Chang-hyun Kim examines your neck at rest and while you tense it, which makes the bands easy to see and mark. The dermatologist then sets the dose and the spacing of points along each band. Doses in the neck are kept deliberately measured, because the muscles that help you swallow and support your head lie deeper in the same region.

If crepey skin or horizontal lines are the bigger concern, see our neck wrinkles page. Downturned mouth corners, which often appear with platysmal bands, can be treated with mouth corner Botox.

Treatment goals

Common goals for neck Botox

A smoother neck when talking

Many people notice their neck bands most on video calls or in photos taken mid-conversation. Relaxing the bands reduces how much they stand out when you speak or react.

A cleaner jawline in profile

By easing the platysma's downward pull along the jaw, a Nefertiti-style approach can make the jawline look a little more defined. The change is subtle and more noticeable when skin elasticity is still reasonable.

A neck that matches the face

After facial treatments, prominent bands can make the neck look older than the face. Softening them helps the two look more consistent.

Working alongside skin-tightening treatments

Where laxity is present as well as bands, toxin can be combined with a thread lift or energy-based tightening.

What to expect

1. Consultation & diagnosis

Your dermatologist asks about any swallowing, voice or neck problems, previous neck treatments or surgery, health conditions and medicines. The neck is examined at rest and when tensed, and skin laxity and fullness under the chin are assessed, because these need different treatments. You will hear honestly whether Botox is likely to help.

2. Treatment

Numbing cream can be applied if you wish. With the bands marked, small, shallow injections are placed along each band and, for jawline work, along the lower border of the jaw. It usually takes 10–15 minutes, and small bumps settle within an hour or so.

3. Aftercare & follow-up

You receive written aftercare and can return to normal activities the same day. The bands soften over the first week, with the full effect at about 2 weeks. A review at 2–4 weeks, at the clinic or by message with photos, lets your dermatologist check whether any band needs adjusting next time.

Cost guide

Neck Botox cost in Seoul

The neck needs more toxin than small facial areas, although Korean-made toxins keep costs moderate in Seoul. The ranges below are typical of Seoul clinics, not fixed prices; the number of bands, whether the jawline is included and the toxin brand affect the total. Units vary by brand and cannot be compared one to one. International patients receive an itemised quote in English.

Platysmal bands, Korean-made toxin (e.g. Nabota) ₩100,000–₩300,000

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the risks of neck Botox?

Common side effects are small bruises, tenderness, mild swelling at the points and sometimes a headache. Because deeper neck muscles help with swallowing and holding up the head, the specific risks are temporary neck weakness, difficulty swallowing or a change in voice. These are rare and more likely with high doses, which is why the dose is kept measured and set by a board-certified dermatologist after examining your neck.

Who should avoid neck Botox?

Postpone treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an infection or rash on the neck, or are unwell. It is not suitable if you have a neuromuscular disorder such as myasthenia gravis, an existing swallowing or breathing problem, or an allergy to toxin ingredients. Tell your dermatologist about all medicines, especially blood thinners and aminoglycoside antibiotics.

Will neck Botox remove the lines across my neck?

Usually only partly. Horizontal neck lines come mostly from skin folding and loss of elasticity rather than muscle pull, so toxin has a limited effect on them. Skin boosters, energy-based treatments or carefully placed filler are often more useful, and your dermatologist in Apgujeong can combine approaches where appropriate.

Can I have neck Botox during a short trip to Seoul?

Yes. The treatment takes about 15 minutes and you can return to sightseeing in Gangnam the same day, avoiding the gym for 24 hours; flying afterwards is generally considered fine. Book early in your stay and plan any event at least 2 weeks after treatment. Follow-up continues by message once you are home.

Can neck Botox replace a facelift or thread lift?

No. It relaxes muscle but does not lift or remove loose skin. For mild bands with good skin quality it may be all you need for now. If the skin is lax, your dermatologist at our Cheongdam clinic may suggest a neck thread lift or ultrasound skin tightening, and will tell you if a surgical opinion would be more appropriate.
