Chin Botox in Apgujeong & Cheongdam, Gangnam, Seoul

Relaxes an overactive chin muscle to smooth dimpling and the tight, pebbled look when you close your lips.

Chin Botox
Quick answer
Chin Botox places a small amount of botulinum toxin (often called Botox) into the mentalis muscle to soften a dimpled, pebbled or puckered chin. At Oaro Dermatology Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul, a board-certified dermatologist examines your chin at rest, while you speak and as you close your lips, then sets the dose to suit the strength of the muscle. Results typically appear within 2–5 days and last around 3–4 months.

Every Botox plan at Oaro Dermatology Clinic begins with a 1:1 examination by a board-certified dermatologist, so the toxin, dose and injection points are set for your muscles rather than a template. Meet our doctors or see all injectables.

Overview

What is chin Botox?

The mentalis is a small muscle in the centre of the chin that lifts and pushes up the lower lip. In some people it is very active, so the chin skin bunches into dimples and bumps, often described as an orange-peel or cobblestone chin. It can also deepen the crease between the lower lip and chin, and some people notice their chin tightening whenever they talk, drink or close their lips.

Relaxing the mentalis with a small dose of toxin lets the chin skin lie smoother and the chin look calmer as you speak. In some faces this also makes the chin's outline look smoother in profile, although Botox does not add volume or length.

How chin Botox works at Oaro

At Oaro Dermatology Clinic in Cheongdam Tower, about 8 minutes on foot from Apgujeong Rodeo Station in Gangnam, a board-certified dermatologist such as Dr. Chang-hyun Kim assesses your chin before any treatment. The dermatologist watches the muscle while you speak, purse your lips and close your mouth, and checks the lower lip and mouth corners, because the muscles here sit close together. The dose and points are set to soften the mentalis while keeping lip movement natural.

Treatment goals

Common goals for chin Botox

A smoother chin surface

The most common goal is reducing the dimpled texture that appears when the mentalis contracts. With less bunching, make-up sits more evenly and the chin looks smoother in conversation.

Less visible strain when closing the lips

Some people use the mentalis constantly to bring their lips together, often because of tooth or jaw position. Toxin can ease the visible strain, while the bite itself remains a matter for a dentist or orthodontist.

Softening the crease below the lower lip

A horizontal line between the lower lip and chin can deepen with an overactive mentalis. Relaxing the muscle may soften it; a crease that is deep at rest may also need filler or skin treatments.

Balancing the lower face

Chin Botox is often planned with mouth corner Botox for downturned corners, or with jawline treatments, so the lower face looks balanced from the front and side.

What to expect

1. Consultation & diagnosis

Your dermatologist reviews your medical history, previous lower-face treatments, any orthodontic work and your medicines. The chin is examined at rest, in movement and from the side, to separate muscle activity from volume loss or a small chin. You then agree together how much softening you want.

2. Treatment

The skin is cleansed and usually one or two points are marked low on the chin, away from the lower lip. Injections take a few minutes with a very fine needle. Most people feel a short sting; numbing cream or a cold pack is available.

3. Aftercare & follow-up

You receive written aftercare and can usually return to work the same day. The chin begins to relax in 2–5 days, with the full effect at about 2 weeks. A review at 2–4 weeks, in person in Cheongdam or by message after you travel, lets your dermatologist check the result and refine the next session.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the risks of chin Botox?

Most side effects are mild: small bruises, slight swelling or tenderness at the points, and occasionally a headache. The specific risk here is toxin reaching the muscles that move the lower lip, which can cause an uneven smile, a lower lip that feels weak, or difficulty with some sounds or drinking from a cup for a few weeks. These effects are uncommon with careful placement and wear off as the toxin does.

Who should avoid chin Botox?

Treatment should wait if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an infection, cold sore or acne flare on the chin, or are unwell. It is not suitable for people with a neuromuscular disorder such as myasthenia gravis or an allergy to toxin ingredients. Let your dermatologist know about all medicines, especially blood thinners and aminoglycoside antibiotics.

Is chin Botox the same as chin filler?

No. Botox relaxes the muscle that dimples and tightens the chin, while filler adds volume and projection. Some people need one, some the other, and some benefit from both. Your dermatologist in Apgujeong will explain which fits your chin and, if both suit you, whether to do them on the same day.

I am only in Seoul for a few days. Is that enough?

For the treatment itself, yes. It takes minutes, there is no real downtime and flying afterwards is generally considered fine. Book early in your stay so you see the effect beginning before you leave; the full result appears at about 2 weeks, and your dermatologist can review photos by message once you are home. Our team coordinates appointments in English for visitors staying in Gangnam and across Seoul.

Will the same dose be used every time?

Not necessarily. Your dermatologist adjusts each session based on how your chin responded last time, rather than repeating the same plan. Most people return about every 3–4 months, and patients living nearby often time repeat visits to our Cheongdam clinic with other facial areas.
